How Much Does It Cost to Manufacture Clothing in Turkey?

Every buyer asks some version of the same question early on: what will this garment cost to make? There is no single answer, because the cost of manufacturing clothing in Turkey, as anywhere, is built from several separate decisions rather than one fixed rate.

Rather than quoting a number that would be meaningless without the full spec, it helps to understand the components that go into a quote, so you can judge whether a price is reasonable for what you are asking for.

Fabric choice and certification

Fabric is typically the largest single input on a garment's cost sheet. A plain polyester jersey and a certified organic cotton knit are not comparable on price, even if the final garment looks similar on a hanger.

Certifications such as GOTS or GRS confirm that fibres meet organic or recycled content standards, and that confirmation involves traceability and testing through the supply chain. Fibres such as Tencel™, modal, bamboo, wool and silk also sit at different price points than standard cotton or polyester, independent of any certification.

Yarn and trim quality

Yarn count, twist and finishing affect how a fabric performs and feels, and better-performing yarns cost more to spin. The same logic applies to trims: zips, buttons, elastics and labels vary widely in quality and therefore in price.

A tech pack that specifies a named trim brand or a particular finish will produce a different quote than one that leaves the trim open to the factory's standard options.

Labour intensity of the construction

A garment's cost is also driven by how many operations it takes to sew it. A simple single-seam T-shirt takes far fewer minutes on the line than a structured jacket with linings, pockets and multiple panels.

Extra construction details, such as topstitching, bindings, multiple needle operations or hand-finishing, all add machine time and therefore add cost, regardless of the fabric used.

Wash, print, embellishment, packaging and logistics

Any step after the garment is sewn, such as washing, printing or embroidery, adds its own process and its own cost. Garment washing in particular changes the fabric's final hand-feel and shrinkage, and needs to be budgeted and tested separately from the base construction.

Packaging specifications, whether that is polybags, hangtags or retail-ready folding, and the agreed Incoterm for shipping, both sit outside the garment cost itself but affect the landed price a brand actually pays.

Order quantity and compliance overhead

Larger orders generally spread fixed costs, such as line setup and sampling, over more units, which is one reason unit cost tends to fall as quantity rises. This is a separate effect from the MOQ question but often gets confused with it.

A factory holding audits and certifications such as SEDEX/SMETA, OEKO-TEX, BCI, Fair Trade, Control Union or QIMA audits, and ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 10002, carries ongoing compliance overhead that is reflected across its pricing, in exchange for the assurance those standards provide to the buyer.

When comparing quotes from different suppliers, make sure each one is pricing against the same fabric spec, the same tolerance levels, the same trims and the same Incoterm. A lower number is not necessarily a better price if it is quoting a lighter fabric, a looser tolerance or a different shipping term.
